Common Sense Design is a small and friendly design firm. Really small. It's just me, Nigel Gordijk. And I'm 5' 4".
I have a B.A. (Hons) in Graphic Design and I've been a professional designer for 23 years. (I know I don't look old enough. What if I told you I have a granddaughter?)
I started off as a print designer, but since 2001 most of my work has been website design.
My client list includes:
I'm originally from London (in England, not the small town in Ontario) and I lived in Brighton for a while. Now I'm based in New Hamburg, ON, where I try to convince people that they're the ones with an accent.
In 2001 I co-founded Creative Latitude, a worldwide network that promotes ethical business practices within creative industries. I came up with the name and created the website.
I've written articles about website design for Ecademy, Webreference and CreativePublic. In 2005, I was featured in The Savvy Designer's Guide to Success by American design guru, Jeff Fisher. My work also made it into Jeff's 2007 book, Identity Crisis!: 50 redesigns that transformed stale identities into successful brands.
I've published a PDF about how to write a professional project brief, called Web Proposal Writing.
In 1997 I married Torontonian Cheryl and became a permanent resident in Canada in 2006 (the paperwork to become a citizen is in the works). I'm into my second term on the executive of the New Hamburg Board of Trade, as well as being active in the community. Oh, and I'm a complete health and fitness nut.
