Common Sense Design is a small and friendly design firm. Really small. It's just me, Nigel Gordijk. And I'm 5' 4".
I have a B.A. (Hons) in Graphic Design and I've been a professional designer for over 21 years. (I know I don't look old enough. What if I told you I have a granddaughter?)
I started off as a print designer, but for the past 10 years most of my work has been website design.
My client list includes:
- Honda
- Royal Shakespeare Company
- HM Government
- Castle Kilbride
- New Hamburg Board of Trade
- Harry Potter Festival
- University of Brighton

I'm originally from London (in England, not the small town in Ontario) and I lived in Brighton for a while. Now I'm based in New Hamburg, ON, where I try to convince people that they're the ones with an accent.
I co-founded Creative Latitude, a worldwide network that promotes ethical business practices within creative industries. I came up with the name and created the website.
I've written stuff about website design for Ecademy, Webreference and CreativePublic. In 2005, I was featured in The Savvy Designer's Guide to Success by American design guru, Jeff Fisher. My work also made it into Jeff's 2007 book, Identity Crisis!: 50 redesigns that transformed stale identities into successful brands.
I published an eBook about how to write a professional project brief, called Web Proposal Writing.
In 1997 I married Torontonian Cheryl and became a permanent resident in Canada in 2006. I'm into my second term on the executive of the New Hamburg Board of Trade, as well as being active in the community. |
